Market Snapshot
The session showed narrow ranges across the majors. Bitcoin led the downside on percentage terms while Ethereum remained essentially flat. Solana recorded the largest single-day drop among the group at 1.9 percent. XRP followed with a 1.2 percent decline. Dogecoin provided the only positive close, extending a modest bid into the close.
Price action remained contained as traders waited for the inflation print. No sharp candles appeared on the four-hour charts for BTC or ETH. SOL printed the weakest intraday low relative to its open. XRP stayed inside its prior session range. DOGE held above its daily open throughout the period.
CPI Timing Details
The August CPI release date was set by the BLS schedule and confirmed through FinanceFeeds reporting. The print arrives one day after the September 10 PPI number, which will offer an earlier read on producer prices. Market participants will compare both releases against expectations before the FOMC decision.
Waller’s September 3 remarks on conditional hold or hike scenarios remain available as background color ahead of the data. Those comments outlined the data thresholds the Fed is watching but did not commit to a specific September outcome.
Next Steps for Traders
Attention now turns to the September 10 PPI print and the September 11 CPI release. Both figures will feed directly into rate expectations for the September 16 FOMC decision. Spot prices for the majors are likely to stay range-bound until those prints land.
CoinGecko data captured the session levels at approximately 3:09 p.m. ET on September 7. Those marks give a clear baseline for any moves that develop once the inflation numbers arrive.
